At 24 hours, a midwife will call and check on all of you. If there seems to be an issue, someone will come by. We usually recommend that the 24 hour timeframe is an excellent time to book a lactation consultant 

At 48 hours, a midwife will come to your home and offer the following standard checkups for the Mother-Baby dyad:

• Newborn Metabolic Screening
• Newborn Cardiac Screening
• Weight Check for newborn and other vitals
• Maternal Checkup and vitals 
• Verify that the birth certificate and social security information is correct and will file accordingly. 

At 1 week postpartum, clients come to one of our offices, and a Midwife will offer the following standard checkups :

• Maternal Checkup and vitals
• Postpartum Screening
• Newborn vitals and weight check
• Newborn Hearing Screening
• Referrals to any needed community resources

At 3 and 6 weeks postpartum, clients will return to the midwifes office for all maternal and newborn checkups and vitals

Licensed midwives in Kentucky are within their scope of care to provide complete care for all newborns and mothers until 6 weeks postpartum. After 6 weeks postpartum, the family can choose to transfer to a family practice doctor or pediatrician of their choice for further health care resources. Charts will be provided upon written request following HIPAA standards.
