This is Tabitha Kropf
Tabithas favorite part of home birth is the privilege to walk alongside families who have chosen to give birth in the space where they are most comfortable. She grew up on a small farm in rural Wisconsin and from a young age she wanted to work with and serve women. Midwifery is such a powerful way of connecting with women and families.

Tabitha attended Christian Heritage Academy of Midwifery, and apprenticed with five different midwives before taking the NARM midwifery exam in 2019. she worked with a group practice, comprised of CPMs and Family Practice Doctors, in LaFarge, WI for two and a half years, serving the plain communities (primarily Amish and Mennonite) in the region.

Tabitha has been licensed as a Kentucky Licensed CPM since 2022 and was hired by Wantina to work as a staff midwife for Mama’s Midwife LLC in March of 2022. She will continue to be the backup midwife for the practice for when wantina is on vacation or teaching at conferences.

Tabitha will be moving to her own smaller practice in july 2023 and will be serving the dry ridge and williamstown area here in Kentucky. She will be offering home visits for all her care. She will continue to be a backup midwife for mamas midwife when we have more than one birth at once. If you are in that area, and want to talk to tabitha about her services for due dates from July 2023 on, please call her immediately at (608) 632-9892.

Philosophy of Care

  • I feel that it is an honor and a privilege to be included in a families birth experiences. I believe that the role of a midwife is one of Respect, Protection, & Guidance. I stress that the relationship between the midwife and client is confidential and one of mutual trust and responsibility. I believe that the job of a midwife is to enable families by bringing knowledge, skills, & experience to Their Birth Experience.
  • I believe that life begins at conception, and that child has a mind, spirit, and soul and should be treated with respect accordingly. Parenting does not begin at birth, but begins at conception.
  • I believe that parents are ultimately responsible for their pregnancies, births, and children. As such, they both have the right and responsibility to become informed and knowledgeable as a couple, that they may share together in the decision making process of their child's birth.
  • I believe that the human body is designed for pregnancy and birth, and that it works. I believe that a normal birth is a vaginal birth that has been allowed to progress, with minimal technological interventions.
  • I believe that pain is not to be feared or denied, but is a reminder that we are human. Childbirth is an athletic event that should be prepared for in the same way that a runner prepared for a marathon.
  • I believe that appropriate nutrition during pregnancy, including appropriate nutritional supplements, is vital for the health of mom and baby.
  • I believe that healthcare should reflect the physical safety of mother and baby, and also the important and inseparable emotional, social, and spiritual needs and beliefs that are unique to each family.I provide individualized care in an atmosphere of wellness and trust that the natural process will properly function
  • I believe that pregnancy and birth are profound life experiences for the life of the mother and her family that will have long lasting effects. I provide supportive, nurturing care for the expectant mother during this time, which can greatly influence future mother-infant attachment and good self-esteem.
  • I believe that breastfeeding is the perfect design to protect mothers and babies from harmful disease and death. Breastfeeding protects family bonds, particularly between mother and baby.
  • I believe that healthy families are the foundation of a healthy society. Positive childbirth experiences assist families to grow together and strengthen family bonds, by including the father and other significant family members as desired
  • I base the standards of my practice on current written researched evidence, as well as commonsense and intuition. I believe comes from a careful observance of a situation that has already been proven to work well when properly supported.
